Daily participation grade calculation
Evaluation on attendance and participation is required for each teaching day. Absences will be counted as zeros for your daily performance, which will lower your overall average. If you know you will miss a class, you may turn the work in early for full credit. In this semester, being absent within 4 times will be waived. Absence over 6 times before midterm exams will cause an F. If you feel difficult in accomplishing the course, please schedule an appointment with the instructor.
A: Arrive on time; be fully prepared for the class; try his/her best to positively and maximally use Chinese during class time; make contributions to class discussion by encouraging other students to participate, making a good example or being willing to help others.
B: Arrive on time; be polite and quite; seldom participate or only participate when being invited to.
C: Arrive late within 5 minutes after class starts.
F: No show OR negatively participate (e.g., be rude, impolite, interruptive to others; violate the honor code; language or behavior interrupts regular teaching and learning and/or make others uncomfortable or unfocused etc.).
Final grade calculation
Given that learning a foreign language requires postively and maximuly use the target language, course work and participation are both very important. Your final grade will be based on an average of your grades throughout the term and participation. For example, a student who expects to get a final grade A needs to meet both the course work grade 95% or higher and attendance and participation grades A- or higher. Grades or other concerns with the class will only be discussed in person.
