Preparation
Preparation before class: Preview the vocabulary (pinyin and character) and be able to 1) explain the meaning of the new words through different ways (e.g. interpret in English or act them out), pronounce them correctly, use the words to make sentences. Vocabulary quiz: 5 words (5 points)
Textbook dialogue reading and acting Listen to your CD and be ready for an in-class rush-to-answer game (This task helps you comprehend the dialogue and develop reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. Since "Grammar" and "Words & Phrases" will be introduced during the discussion of the dialogue, please preview these two sections before class starts.) Write your answers on the board and teach a lesson based on an assigned workbook excise. Homework: start to prepare dialogue writing Review this lesson and answer questions
Student teaching: Choose a topic (e.g., a grammar principle, a traveling story etc.), prepare a lesson, teach the lesson and lead the discussion. Homework: 1) Review this chapter and post any questions and response to the discussion board (optional). 2) Use the new vocabulary and grammar to write a dialogue/monologue, underline 15 words and write 5 questions to your audience; bring a hard copy and be prepared to perform in class on Monday. Revise your dialogue; ask a tutor for help if necessary. Dialogue performance: Each group performs the dialogue they created and ask 5 questions based on the dialogue to the audience.
You will be asked to give feedback to your own group members and other groups. Practice speaking with rotating partners; brainstorm on topics, fill out a learning summary worksheet.
Homework: Speaking practice and start preparing for essay writing. You will be given 30 seconds to answer a question you draw.
